WMC Secretary General welcomes French
court decision on Muslim ladies dress

The Secretary General of World Muslim Congress, Senator Raja Muhammad Zafar-ul-Haq, has paid tributes to the French judicial system on the decision of the Human Rights court in France allowing Muslim ladies in France to wear any dress including hijab without any restriction.

Following is the text of the letter the Secretary General wrote to the French Ambassador H.E. Mr. Daniel Jouanneau in Islamabad on June 6, 2010: Excellency,

I hope this finds you in t he best of your circumstances.

I am writing this letter to pay my tributes to the French Judicial System, when I learnt that the Human Rights Court in France, has allowed Muslim ladies in France to wear any dress including Hijab without any restriction.

This decision becomes more valuable when we consider the political atmosphere created by some Sections of French Society against veil. The ban had certainly created resentment in the Muslim societies all over the globe because religious tolerance and freedom are basic to a civilized society. This discrimination against Muslim women, was unfortunate while most of the Christian Nuns have a special dress, which they wear in distinction to the common dress in Europe that should not only be accepted but should also be respected. There are so many basic issues like peace in society, the scourge of terrorism, hunger and disease besides crimes, which we have to fight against collectively, as a human family. I hope, other countries in the world especially Europe would follow the example of French Judicial System.
With my kind regards,

Yours,
Senator Raja Muhammad Zafar-ul-Haq
