Statement of Policy
In the light of the principles laid down above, the World Muslim Congress would like to reiterate its enduring policies as follows:

  1. Islam has been subjected to a vicious campaign of vindictive and false accusations by hatred and political pretensions motivated in order to stain the reputation of a universal religion and civilization. Apart from the fact that this campaign is stark injustice and wrong, it could set an evil precedent, which will compromise other religions of the world. So it is incumbent on all people of good faith to unite efforts to stifle this wicked attempt before it engulfs the whole world and causes irreparable damage to all.
  2. Our firm belief that real peace cannot be achieved without the observance of justice and equity.
  3. Our total rejection of the theory of the inevitability of clash between civilizations and the belief in the complementarity and inter-dependence of all civilizations and cultures.
  4. The appreciation of religious and spiritual teachings in enhancing understanding and co-existence between different peoples.
  5. The World Muslim Congress has already engaged in inter-Faith dialogue at all levels, and we appreciate the positive results achieved so far, and express our readiness to continue this process.
  6. The United Nations Organization has to be consolidated as a guarantee for Peace and Justice between nations. In order to fulfill this fundamental role it ought to be emancipated from the manipulative tendencies often observed.
  7. The question of Palestine is a startling case where Israel has invoked religious sentiments to provoke hatred and justify its occupation of an Independent country Palestine, and the expulsion of its legitimate Arab people.
  8. The World Muslim Congress strongly supports the struggle of the Palestinian people against foreign occupation and their undeniable rights of independence and statehood in compliance with the United Nation resolutions.
  9. Jerusalem is a sacred inheritance of the Muslim Ummah. The Muslims all over the world will never give up the struggle until Jerusalem is restored to the Palestinian sovereignty.
  10. Concerning the important question of Jammu and Kashmir, the World Muslim Congress has made it clear from the beginning that it unconditionally supports the struggle of the people of the State of Jammu & Kashmir for self-determination, in accordance with the relevant resolution of the UNO. Any illegal actions or demographic changes introduced by India are considered by the WMC null and void, and will not cause the slightest change of the World Muslim Congress’ principled stance.

We, therefore call upon India to listen to the voice of reason and abide by the repeatedly adopted resolutions of the UN and the unanimous stand of the family of nations which support the inalienable rights of the Kashmiris for self-determination and for this objective, India should enter into a meaningful dialogue with Pakistan over this issue.

11. Our world is riddled with many troubled areas and threats to the sovereignty of various countries. Common factor between them is the unbridled appetite of certain powers for domination and expansionism, which made them deny the elementary rights of smaller countries. The only way for the resolution of these problems and the abating of tension is the recognition of these people’s rights to freedom and independence.

We express our deep gratitude to the government and people of friendly Sri Lanka for the hospitality shown to the participants of this Conference and we also appreciate and pray for the success of the reconciliation process in Sri Lanka to the satisfaction of all concerned.

Finally, the World Muslim Congress, which brings together a large number of Muslim organizations worldwide, would like to seize this opportunity to join sincere voices that aspire for just peace in different parts of the world. At a time when a New World Order is taking shape, the World Muslim Congress would like to contribute to the efforts made by the advocates of goodwill in setting up a world order that lays its foundation on a bedrock of values of justice, right belief and the respect of human dignity, and the observance of the people’s rights to freedom and independence.

On behalf of all its member organizations the WMC extends all its support for realization of these noble goals.

Let us all meditate over Allah’s words: “O, men Behold, we have created you all out of a Male and a Female, and have made you into nations and tribes, so that you might come to know one another. Verily, the noblest of you in the sight of God is the one who is most deeply conscious of Him” (49/13).
