WMC's appeal to UN Secretary General
to intervene

Islamabad: Secretary General of the World Muslim Congress, Senator Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, has in a letter to the UN Secretary General, Ban ki Moon, expressed his deep concern at the "worst kind of oppression and genocide" of the Kashmiri people "at the hands of Indian Security forces" and appealed to him for immediate intervention to stop the carnage. A copy of the letter has also been sent to the chairman Human Rights Council, Geneva. Following is the text of the letter of WMC Secretary General to the UN Secretary General:

Excellency,
Kashmir dispute, despite being on the Agenda of the United Nations for the last over 63 years, is still unresolved. This dispute has ignited wars in the Sub-Continent several times. Indian intransigence is the only road block in the resolution of this dispute, which is not a territorial issue but a 'human rights issue'. The very concept of United Nations, as enumerated in its Charter, is to promote democracy and plebiscite. These are the two objectives, which became a driving force in the passage of over two dozens UN Resolutions, which are all unanimous in promoting a democratic and peaceful resolution of this dispute. India for several years agreed to act upon these Resolutions but later on finding a weakening of the will by the International community, started deviating from them. Indian leadership also admits that they have not been able to suppress the spirit of the Kashmiri people for freedom from the Indian yoke and their desire to decide their own future under the UN Charter and Resolutions. Over 90,000 people have already sacrificed their lives in the struggle for the achievement of their fundamental right at the hands of Indian Security Forces.

Recently, for the last five weeks, people of Occupied Kashmir are facing worst kind of oppression and genocide at the hands of Indian Security Forces and this time women of Kashmir are leading their protest against killings and torture of Kashmiri youths, who are brought out of their houses and shot. Scores have lost their lives and the resistance movement is gaining momentum. Peace and preservation of human lights are a universal commitment and no perpetrators of these crimes can hide behind the excuse of these matters being their internal affairs.

I would, therefore, appeal to Your Excellency for your immediate intervention for stopping the carnage in Occupied Kashmir at the hands of Indian Security Forces.

Yours,
Senator
( Raja Muhammad Zafar-ul-Haq
