Army or martial law is not the solution of the problems of Pakistan: Nawaz Sharif
By Fouzia Khan

JEDDAH: Former prime minister of Pakistan and President of Muslim League (N) Mian Nawaz Sharif had a meeting with the Pakistan Journalists Forum on Sept 2 at his residence in Jeddahon the latest situation of Pakistan and its solution.

Mian Nawaz Sharif said that bringing in the army or imposition of martial law is not the solution of the problems of Karachi and of what's going on in the country, if the government works in the framework of the law then only peace and prosperity can be restored and the economy can be strengthened.

Sharif also said that the situation in Balochistan is deteriorating. "The people over there have no trust in the government and have no hope, and it's all because of the previous martial law; the best solution of the problem is to establish a peaceful society with justice, he said while stressing the need for holding an inquiry into the murder of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti".

He also urged for an enquiry on the statement of Zulfikar Mirza about the conspiracy for dismemberment of the country. He said the truth should be brought before the nation because it is a very serious accusation. The Pakistani people are caught up in their own problems while the leaders are living lavishly, every day there is a new issue and the people forget about the last one.

Sharif said his party was accused of being against the military and Peoples Party (PPP) of being in favor although he reminded, "we helped the army from getting a bad name during the Kargil war. He said, "I don't call the present government a democratic government; it's not the government of PPP but of Asif Ali Zardari, because there are good people in PPP, we had discussions with the late Benazir Bhutto for establishment of democracy in the country, "we never spoke of partnership in the government, but after her death the present government is far from democracy," he said.

Mian Nawaz Sharif said the problem of the nation can only be solved by rallying the people together. "People are asking us for a long march."

He said the civil society and nation must consider the current situation seriously and try to find solution to solve these problems. He also said that Muslim League (N) has not yet thought about aligning with any of the parties. "People are coming to us because they know who can work for democracy.

If our country has true democracy then no foreign country can dare interfere in our internal affairs," he added.

While disagreeing that the present government was democratic, he said only true democracy can be a barrier against terrorism and pandemonium, foreign powers always take advantage of such circumstances. Talking about Sayed Ghous Ali Shah he said he is a very important part of Muslim League (N) and he will play an important role in Karachi. "There is no conflict between him and Muslim League, he was with me in Madina during Ramadan, we prayed the Eid prayers together," he said.
